|The NHL has suspended Buffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen for three games following his blindside hit that led to Pittsburgh Penguins forward Jake Guentzel sustaining a concussion.
Analysis: The fine costs Buffalo's top defenseman $90,000 in a ruling announced Thursday, shortly after Ristolainen had a hearing with the league's department of player safety. The hit occurred about nine minutes into Pittsburgh's 3-1 win at Buffalo on Tuesday.

|Polak was suspended two games Thursday for his hit on Blue Jackets forward Oliver Bjorkstrand in Wednesday's game.
Analysis: Polak, who was given a major boarding penalty and game misconduct after the play, will forfeit $25,000 in salary.

Analysis: It's unclear how long he'll be out, but the league announced Thursday that Polak would be suspended for two games.

|The New York Islanders have recalled Halak for their push for a playoff spot.
Analysis: Halak, sent down to the minors on Dec. 31, gave up four goals in less than two periods of a 6-4 loss at Minnesota on Dec. 29. He was waived the next day. Halak was 6-8-5 with a 3.23 goals-against average in 21 games this season before being sent down to Bridgeport of the AHL after clearing waivers. The 31-year-old was 17-7-3 with a 2.15 GAA in 27 games with the Sound Tigers.

|Bernier made 29 saves in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Oilers.
Analysis: Bernier, 6-0-1 in his last seven starts, has a 1.64 GAA and .948 save percentage in nine games this month. The Ducks next play Friday versus the Jets, a team against which Bernier is 2-0-2 with a 1.92 GAA.

|McDavid played a part in all of Edmonton's goals Wednesday, scoring one and assisting on two in a 4-3 loss at Anaheim.
Analysis: McDavid has scored or assisted on six of the Oilers' seven goals in the past three games, and his consistency lately has been very impressive. Besides having three goals and seven assists during a five-game point streak, he hasn't gone back-to-back games without scoring since Feb. 21-24.
